Couldn't Be a More Appropriate Time

Given the recent news I figured I was being told now was the time to actually write something on this blog. Not that I expect anyone to ever see it. That's why it's called Yelling at the Wall.

But here I can at least babble incoherently and feel somewhat better.

I have pondered blogging so many times and even made random jabs at it. But ultimately I felt like my voice was not essential. There were plenty of other voices with more flair, more talent, and more knowledge of various subject matters. I have my talents of course but I felt like they weren't enough to warrant blogging.

But recently, I have obtained blog enlightenment.

The blog is not actually for anyone to see or read. That can happen as the wills of random chance, but the blog is ultimately for me to vent. Of course by that logic I could just write these things into a notebook. A blog at least offers the chance that yelling at a wall will eventually lead to others who want to have a discussion.

And I discovered where I might have a niche.

Most blogs focus on little bits of news of the day. Who's right, who's wrong, what makes for a good bill, what makes for a bad law etc. I realized not only was there a niche that is not utilized near as much, but in many ways those huge blogs are wasting their time.

My blog can be useful.

My blog can be helpful.

My blog can discuss the issue that is actually important.

That issue of course.

We are all fucking doomed.

Note that I just said fuck, so feel free to compare me to the person who shot Congressman Giffords. But I'm getting muddled up in the details of now saying things like that.

Let's start again. Human civilization, in the form we currently know it, is doomed. I can't tell you how this end will occur, whether it will be fast or slow, but I feel like it is inevitably headed towards destruction.

My best guess is peak oil, combined with the utter insanity of many of the current US populace will be the source of our demise, but I am not so arrogant as to rule out many other chances.

Let's keep in mind I am not taking the Daily Show's Earth the Book method of saying we as a species will go extinct. I am saying our civilization is doomed.

But a new society will definitely...eventually..arise out of the rubble. We humans are very good at that. Even with peak oil or a nuclear war, some will manage to survive.

That's where I hope to make some contribution. I hope I can give some advice that saves the new society a couple hundred years of development. This provides a nice advantage too as I can avoid talking over the trivialities of the modern day. While these can be helpful for predicting our downfall and for convincing some that it is happening, current politics are mostly distractions. What we need to do is decide what makes a good society for tomorrow. We have to decide what that society should be like.

Hopefully I can figure that out. And if someone was crazy enough to read this blog and comment, then we could figure that out. I am a pretty obstinate person though. Need a good deal of evidence or very precise reasoning to change my mind on things. Neither of those seem to be in heavy supply these days, which is one of the reasons why I am more and more convinced at to how screwed we are.

I may just ignore this blog tomorrow and never post anything else, but who knows. Yelling at a wall can have its appeal too.

(editing? Hell no? I couldn't last a day if I edited while blogging.)
